Fall 2020 Internships

Greater Charlotte Area Mutual Aid (GCAMA) is hiring interns for the Fall 2020 Internship Program. GCAMA will immerse each intern in the daily operations of a non-profit startup in Charlotte. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about non-profit operations in changing work environments from large-scale community projects to developing meaningful relationships with community members.

The Greater Charlotte Area Mutual Aid Fall 2020 Internship program will run from September 28, 2020 to November 20, 2020. This is an unpaid internship; you will be expected to work 10-20 hours per week (more hours can be requested). College credit can be awarded with proper arrangements.

  • Oral History Intern

  • Public Relations Intern

General Responsibilities

  • Gain understanding of non-profit organizations through job assignments.

  • Develop critical thinking and analytical skills in a non-profit environment.

  • Gain exposure to non-profit industry, community organization, and social mobilization.

  • Provide support to various committees and their staff members.

  • Participate in a collaborative project with the other interns to be completed over the summer.


Position Responsibilities

Community Development Intern

  • Contribute meaningful work to our community development projects (Cards for Crisis, Covid Chronicles, Covaid, GoLocalCLT, Public Health Campaign, and Youth Forward Coalition)

  • Support your cross-functional project team; community development interns will be assigned to the operations function

  • Connect with community partners and members to implement projects through the 3R Framework for Solidarity (Resilience, Resources, and Relationships)

Fundraising Intern

  • Develop relationships with donors and members in the community.

  • Create implementation plans and donation campaigns to achieve our donation goals.

  • Assist the CFO and fundraising function in fundraising operations.

Oral History Internship

  • Gain understanding of the role of oral historians and actively archiving history.

  • Develop and implement action plans for marketing campaigns.

  • Assist story mining for our story bank, COVID Chronicles.

  • Collect meaningful stories from community members.​

Public Relations Intern

  • Develop original content for social media platforms.

  • Draft press releases for new initiatives and important organizational updates.

  • Develop meaningful relationships with our community partners.

  • Self-starters who are resourceful, critical, curious, ambitious, and driven.
